Friend above all else

I met Kathryn at work. We were so shocked and upset when we found out she had been diagnosed with cancer. I became her PCNS although Kathryn was always more concerned about everyone else than herself and didn't like "taking up our time" which she felt could have benefitted others. Despite wishing that Kathryn didn't really need our services, little did she know that I actually enjoyed my visits to Kathryn because it was more like coming to see a friend than a patient, and it always felt a little bit like I was having a skive! Kathryn, although clearly frightened and struggling, never dwelled on her problems and always found time to ask me what was going on in my life! I enjoyed getting to know kathryn but always wished that she didnt need palliative care. A kind, thoughtful, intelligent and funny person, I shall miss her and be forever bewildered by this cruel world which took her away too soon.
